Arctic Circle Cartoon - Apollo 11, the Moon Landing and Progress
Tomorrow marks 50 years since the moon landings. We’ve made a lot of progress in that time..
And gone backwards some.
Living in New Zealand: Old Christchurch City Still Exists in Places
I don't leave port very often, but this week I had an appointment in the city. It seems that every time I go in there is something new to see as the rebuild continues eight years after the last big earthquake struck. But there are also a few old things hanging around, like the tram, derelict buildings (including Christchurch Cathedral. I have no idea how they are going to fix that but they plan to) and these steps. There must be a story behind these steps.

Hopefully we’ll figure this one out, just as grid capacity is being planned for, battery production and recycling is improving and the price of electric vehicles is coming down.
Reasons to Be Cheerful - Cold Water Dips in a Seawater Pool
The Motueka estuary is an important area for lots of birds (the most celebrated are the godwits). When I was at the tidal pool there was a white heron perched by the pool and a kingfisher was a repeat visitor to a little log that stuck out of the mud.
Being midwinter in New Zealand, it is not really the time to be swimming in tidal pools. But whenever I'm in a situation like this there is a voice in my head (my sister’s) that tells me I should go in. So I did.
It was bloody freezing.
